What HelpingHand can do

Defying Disability

Hi! 👋 You just used your hand to say 'hello'! You also used it to make breakfast this morning, to check your phone, and for innumerable other tasks today. What would you do if you couldn't? Over 10,000 people in the US alone lose the use of their arms through amputation every year (ishn.com). Building on the prevalent sip-and-puff controller, we designed HelpingHand to be compatible with mouth-based control. Now everyone can enjoy the simple pleasure of waving 'hello'.

Picking Up Plastic

Climate change is the problem of our generation. Canada's 2021 single-use plastic ban will be a small step in the fight to detoxify our planet, but there is already up to 13 million tonnes of plastic in the ocean already (nhm.ac.uk). With HelpingHand, we present one new tool in the fight against plastic pollution.

Why the HelpingHand

The HelpingHand can be used with a variety of applications, with our simple design the arm can be easily mounted on a wall or a rover. With the simple controls any user will find using the HelpingHand easy and intuitive. Our high speed video camera will allow the user to see the arm and its environment so users can remotely control our hand.

Disaster Relief

Locate and save survivors of natural disasters and move debris in hard to get to places.

Remotely help patients in need with a precision controlled arm when doctors are not available on site.
